Hello!
My name is Debora. I'm 24 years old and I come from Viareggio, a little sea-town in Toscana.
I am at the end of my master's degree in Art History. I study at Pisa University and I'm writing a thesis about Stuarts in exile in Italy and their cultural court.
I'm attending this English course because I would like to improve my pronounciation and I would like to pass the tour guide exam without problems.
I'm lucky because I had a great English teacher during High School. that was why I passed the FCE five years ago.
I love foreign languages, I can speak also French and German but I think that English is most usefull.
It is spoken all over the world, it's a key language.

My favorite one is Paris, is beautiful!
Well, that’s all for now!

See you on Monday!

Bye,

Giulio.

Hi!
My name is Giuseppe D'Angelo, I'm (almost) 23 years old, and I study Computer Science in Pisa. I come from Caerta, a small town near Naples; my family still lives there.

I really enjoy being a computer scientist. I spend many hours a day studying, surfing the web, reading blogs (especially IT-related ones), chatting and writing and testing computer programs.

In my spare time (to be read as: my non-academic interests are) I usually listen to some good music, watch movies and read books. I'm also a bass guitar player, but I haven't practiced anymore for a while ;-)

Hi! I'm Gerardo. I'm 23 years old and I study chemistry.
Even if I'm not a child, I like cartoons very much. I know about 300 opening and ending theme song (obviusly in Italian) and I have all of them on my computer.
I prefer Japanese cartoons (anime) and every day I watch at least two episodes. Truly I can watch entire series of cartoons in few days. I think that my record was to watch 50 twenty-minutes long episodes in only five days: ten episodes a day!!! Too much!!!
I'm often so captured by the plot that when I finish I feel sad as if I know the characters very well, what they want, what they think; as if I'm one of them.
Maybe I'm old for cartoons but I like to go away from this real world in the more fantastic one of cartoon characters!!!

see you soon

Gerardo

Hi everybody,
my name is Antonio and I am a researcher in the University of Pisa. I am from Sardinia but I have been leaving in Pisa since I started my University degree. That means long time ago.
For my job I have to work in English, and actually I am planning to go to US for my research next year. Unfortunately, I am not use to write in English and my grammar is quite bad, so I am following an English course to “refresh” and to improve it.
I like music and movies, and I am a great fan of Simpson, the popular cartoon TV series. I think is difficult to follow them in English, because is full of slang and they play a lot with the words. Or may be I am just lazy and I prefer watch them in Italian…
See you.

Hi! I’m Claudia
I was born in Pisa and I live in a village near Pisa.
I’m a student in Law and I think and hope to graduate in a really little time.
After quite a long period of time, during which I’ve been especially concentrated on work, finally I can prepare my examinations and I can also attend a course in English language.
After having learned the English language at the school, I’ve exercised it only by studying English courses on CD-ROM, reading English books, watching and listening to English programs on television, radio… but I’ve rarely had concrete opportunities to test my knowledge of this foreign language… Well, what a surprise when I knew that my results of the entrance test were sufficient for level C1! I’m a bit worried, but I trust in this course and I’m enthusiastic about it… I really want to improve my English!

Bye to everyone!

I have big passions for sport and music. My favourite sport is football, my favourite team is Napoli (of course). Hi guys,
My name's Francesco and 'm 23 years old. I live in Massa, a town in the north of Tuscany but I study in Pisa, where I'm at the second year of the Master's degree in Internationl Relations. As regards my language knowledge, when I was 14 I've been to Ireland for two weeks to learn English; there I lived with an Irish family.
Last year I've studied in Malta for one academic year, within the Erasmus program. On the island, I met many people from all over the world and I had the opportunity to improve my English and to visit a lot of interesting places. In the future I'm going to attend a post-degree master in International Relations (probably at Bologna University) in order to try to work in international organizations or to enter upon the diplomatic career.
I love sports, especially running and football; I'm a football referee since 2000; this is a hobby that ties me down at least for 4 times in a week if we consider both the training and the matches.
See you soon

Hi!
My name is Beatrice.
I'm 24. I live in Pisa but I come from Lorenzana, a little town between Pisa and Livorno. I'm a student of Political Sciences, here in Pisa. I'd like to talk about my favourite hobby. It's cooking! I think cooking is a good way to relax. But I have some advises to give you. First of all you need a good kitchen, with all of the indispensables instruments for cooking. You must "know" your kitchen very well, be friendly with her, especially with your oven, that is the protagonist of the different recipes. This is the most important think that I want to say to you: only with a good team you can be successfull! I hope it will be helpful for you!
See you soon!

My name is Giancarlo. I live in the hills between La Spezia and Sarzana.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Territorial and environmental economics and now I'm doing a Master's Degree in Sustainable land development and management at the Faculty of Economics here in Pisa.
I've always been attracted by the English language and its sound, it all began by my great passion for rock music and the desire to understand songs' lyrics. I want to improve my English for my personal interests and in order to be able to travel and to stay outside Italy in case I have the opportunity to study or work abroad.
I studied English at school and by myself, I passed two English examinations at university without attending the lessons, so this is my first English course apart from that. I'm sure this course will be interesting and helpful to me, this is a great chance to start studying the language again, I would like to get an international English certification in the future.
I love music, guitar is my greatest passion, I started playing it when I was 12. I also love travelling and animals.
It's all for now, see you soon, bye!

Welcome on board of PEDAGOGICDESIGN2!

My name is Bernadetta. I come from Poland and now I am on the Erasmus Scholarship in Pisa.
I study International Economics at Jagiellonian University in Cracow.

With reference to my studies I am interested in psychological aspects of management- in particular- those relevant to roles and responsibilities of CEO and CAE.
As far as my private life is concerned I love music ( especially duets like Eros Ramazotti & Anastacia or Andrea Boccelli & Sara Brightam) movies ( my favorites are: “Green Mile”, “7 years in Tibet”, “Ocean's eleven”–all parts, “The Prestige”, Polish comedies, psychological films and all films that contribute to the art of world cinematography,
And of course books (mainly autobiographies of big shots)
My motto is: “Man can only be happy when he is striving for something. Once he has obtained that, he needs a new goal to drive him.”
My extremely important passion is traveling all over the world. I can not imagine life without that. Throughout my life I am aiming to be a more well- rounded person and I believe that traveling helps me to attain this goal. There is more in this than meets the eye. Traveling helps me not only to learn languages, meet new people and recharge batteries by relaxing. Experiencing other cultures helps me to broaden my perspectives, this allows me to better appreciate what I have and understand wisdoms of life like the truth that different doesn't always mean better or worse…. just different.

Traveling is directly involved with need for communication and that is the clue my attending this course and that is why English is so important for me. The second reason is that modern English is the dominant international language in communications, science, business, foreign policy, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. A working knowledge of English has become a requirement in a number of fields, occupations and professions and as a consequence over a billion people speak English to at least a basic. International companies in Poland and other European countries take fluency and expression ability in English for granted.

Hi!
My name is Silvia.
I'm 25. I live in Pisa.
I study Building-Architecture Engineering.
I like sports. I played Capoeira for one year. It's a particular sport, because it's a dance-martial art. It was born during 1500, with the emigration of african slaves to South America. The slaves used to play this sport to fight their enemies. Capoeira is very fascinanting for its origin and "philosophy". Now, I stopped playing it, because it became too difficult for my physical abilities, so I starded to do fit-boxing...It's "quite" different, but I like it!
Art, in all its forms, is my favourite hobby! I like painting. My favourite painter is Van Gogh!..Ah, sometimes I paint, when I'm inspired!
Architecture is my first love!!
I study it and I try to express myself in my projects.
I would like to know something about cinema, but now my objective is to learn english!

See you soon!!

Hi! My name is Linda and I study aerospace engineering in Pisa. I live in a small quiet town near Florence, Fucecchio.
I’m passionate about mountain sports such as trekking, climbing and canyoning, but my biggest passion is speleology. I spend most of my free time in caves, searching for new places to explore, not only for the attraction to go where no one has gone before, but also to know something new about the underground world (closely related to what happens aboveground). We are mainly concerned with the discovery, exploration, description and preservation of caves, especially in Tuscany, since we have, here, one of the most important karstic areas in Europe. I have a blog about speleology, and I use it to describe the activity of my speleological group.
I also love travelling and riding motorbikes, but there’s never enough time to do everything I would like to do.
See you soon.

Hello everybody!!
My name is Cristina. I'm a foreing student in Pisa. I'm attending the second year in a pHD course in crop production. I come from Ecuador. It's located in south america between Colombia and Peru. Living in Italy is really nice. I think is one of the best experience that I have had in my life. Italy has a lot of beautiful places to visit, the peoble is very friendly and the food is fantastic. I love pasta!
The only think that was very dificult for me to get used with is the change of temperature. In Ecuador we don't have winter. In my city it is always spring.

Talking about myself is difficult for me. I think that I'm a "sunny person" like almost all people from latin america. I like to smile a lot and I try to be kind with everybody.

I like to sing although I'm not a good singer. I like to read all kind of books. I like to dance specially salsa and merengue (It is my passion) and I like to spend my free time with my friends. I'm not good in any sport but I would like to be good swimmer.

That's all I can say about me. I hope to improve my english and to find good friends in my english class. bye

Hi Everybody...I'm Anna!
I'm 26 and I study Management Engineering in Pisa.I live in a small village by the name of Sarzana. It's a very nice place and I love it.
I spent the last 7 months of my life in Hanover, in the north of Germany, where I worked on my master thesys.
I've been here just for 10 days and I'm still getting use of my normal life in Italy.
This period just finished was more than great and amazing; never in my life I thought about the idea of being an Erasmus student but now I can say for sure it was the best thing I've never done.
Before leaving, in April, a friend of mine told me: "after this experience, you won't be the same anymore". I could believe in those words, I mean, I was sure that I'd have get the hang of work the problems out by my self, I'd have learn to organize my time better than I did, and so on, but I didn't think I'd have changed, at all, my way "to see the world"!!!
There're things that you'll never know till you try and live them: know people from all around the world, their culture, their experiences, travel as well, opened my mind and now I can't stop my self!!! :-)
I like to meet new people, I love my freedom and I became rebellious when restricted. I like have a walk on the beach and listen to the sound of the nature...and the last but not the least, i love people that smile. :-)

That's all for now.
C u tomorrow!

Hi! My name is Marinella Marcucci and I’m going to tell you something about myself… I’m 24 years old and I’m from Pietrasanta… Do you know? It’s a small city by the sea, in Tuscany. I’m a student, I’ve got the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering two years ago and now I’m going to get the Master’s Degree… I’m specializing in the Environmental and Safety sectors… I would like to travel more than what I’ve done up to now… For the moment I’m attending courses of English and German to improve my knowledge of these languages, not only because it can be important for my future job, but also to open my mind to other cultures and other ways of thinking… The most important thing I’ve learn during my studies is that there are always many answers for the same question, that is why we have to look at the same problem from different points of view to find the best solution… I would like to learn to apply this in everyday life to try to really understand people around me… I’m very sensitive, in the positive and in the negative, but also quite egoist… I hate arrogance and superficiality, roughness and hypocrisy. I adore to be lost in thought looking at the sky, listening to the music, without anyone around me, but sure that I’m not lonely… And what about you?

Hello!
My name's Giusy and I'm 23 years old. I’m from Calabria, but I live in Pisa where I study historical linguistics. I like studying the dialects of south Italy, in particular theirs chronological evolution. I also studied the origin of some Indo-European languages, such as English language in Germanic Philology. I think that it’s very hard to understand the old Anglo-Saxon language!
However I’m not an expert of foreign modern languages: I speak a little French, because I spent my last semester in Corsica; My English isn’t very good because I don’t study English in high school.
My family lives in a little village in north of Calabria. Unfortunately, I see my parents during the holidays, that it means three times a year. Indeed, I see my dear friends in holiday, because they live and study in other Italian cities.
In spite of this, I’m very happy to live in Pisa. I found many people very friendly and some of them have become my close friends.
I enjoy reading for my relax time and to understand current affairs.
I love books of contemporary writers: Eco, Benni, Pennac, Galimberti, Dostoevskij, Pirandello, Verga…
I love cinema! I like watching films, in particular those of important directors such as Kubrick, AlmodĂ³var, Polanski. I also like watching Italian comedies with TotĂ², Troisi and Benigni!
I love cooking! My friends say that I cook good cakes, but they perhaps lie.
That’s all for now. See you!

Hi everyone,I’m Isabella and I came from Marina di Carrara on the North-West of Tuscany seaside.
The town is better known for the marble quarries but you can even find a beautiful sandy beach here!
I took a degree in classical guitar and then a post-graduate in Musicology at the Music Academy in Milan.
I decided to attend this course because with my job you’re expected to travel a lot.
I’ve been living in a small house on the beach since 2000 with Luky,my wonderful 8 year’s old Labrador.
Usually in the summer, when friends come round,we spend the night playing our favourite songs at the campfire light with guitars and improvised drums…we look like gypsies and sometimes we cause the same feelings in the neighbours!!!
I really love reading:the book which I best like is “The glass bead game” by H.Hesse.
My favourite hobby is cooking;my father is a former chef and I grew up between cookers and pots…for a while I was fancying of follow his path but women are not well considered as chef so I gave up and now I work as a Music teacher in private schools.By!

Hello everyone!
So here I am to say something about me... Well! My name is Laura, I'm 25, and I come from Pisa.
I've got a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures and now I'm studying European Literatures and Philology. Yes, I know what you're thinking right now... why a student graduated in Foreign Languages is still attendind to an English Course for Level pre-b2?? Well, you're right..actually my university route had been a little bit strange: when I was younger and began University I decided to specialize myself in languages that really were interesting me from personal points of view... so, that's why today I can perfecty speak spanish and quite well polish(I always need to explane the reasons of this choise...it's because of a part of my family who came from Poland)..so that's why today I need to improve my English due to his importance nowadays. In these years I really focused myself in other linguistic fields, so now I'm trying to recover a little bit to my gaps.
I've passed two years of my life In Spain, and in the future I would really like to live and work for a while In Great Britain.

In 2008 I obtained the first level degree in Management Engineering and now I’m attending the last years of master degree course.
I’ve chosen to attend this course because I think the knowledge of English is a milestone for my future career. Also I like travelling and my dream is to be able to sustain a conversation with people of different nationality (and no just few free words as now!).
I’m very happy to attend this course and to know new people! Unfortunately I can’t be present at all the lessons because they are in conjunction with my university courses, but I’ll work hard to improve my English!

Have a nice weekend, see you next Thursday!
Bye Bye

Hi everybody,
my name is Elena and I come from Capanne a little town in Pisa’s province. I am 27 years old and I am attending the faculty of Physics Science, here in Pisa. I am at about four exam from achieve my master degree and I’d like to become an experimentalist in the field of high energy physics and astroparticle physics. In order to do this work I have to write and to speak English as good as possible and this is the reason why I decided to attend this course.
Now, what about me and my interests… I like reading novel, I have a true passion for the movies especially for the 50’s comedies (and I know that’s a little bit curious…). I like travelling to get in touch with other cultures and also to see magnificent natural sights or landscapes that the Nature offers us.
See you tomorrow,

Hi everyone,
my name is Francesco, I'm 27 and I come from Staffoli, a little town near Pontedera. I'm about to face my last exam at the faculty of Electronic Engineering and then I'm going to devote myself on the final work of thesis to get the master degree in electronic systems, maybe during an internship in a company abroad. This is the main reason why I’m attending this course but also because English language is an essential tool to work in the electronic field.
In my spare time I love to get around and visit different places such as small medieval boroughs in the close country or the Italian cities, full of history and attractions. I like very much to travel and so I try to take all the opportunities to go outside Italy and see the world. This is a second reason to try to improve my capabilities in interacting in English.
Another passion I have is that one for the cinema, practically for all the kind of film but especially for science fiction ones. I like to see movies in their original language but often I can’t do that because of the speed of dialogues, mainly in comedies. I think this course will help me also in this thing…
That’s all for now, see you soon in the class!

Hi!
I'm valentina and I'm 27.
I live with my parents and my sister in a little place between Lucca and Pisa. It's a small country village...about 900 inhabitants!
I study Natural Sciences at University of Pisa. My university course is very interesting...it can be divided into three parts: Geology (and Geography), Zoology (and Anthropology) and Botany. I'm especially interested in geological part.
I work too. I'm a teacher in a primary school near Lucca...a very beautiful job!
I love study and I love my job too, but I'm tired because they are taking up a lot of my time.
I'm interested in Geomorphology and I think I'll choose this subject for my thesis...I hope to graduate next year!
Geomorphology is the study of landscapes. We observe the land's morphology and we try to explain why they are like that.
Why did I choose to attend an English course?
Actually, I hope to improve my comprehension and my English spoken, for my studies and for my travels.

Hi,
my name is Andrea.
How old am I?
Guess!!
I can help you, I am older than 25 and younger than 60.

I have been living for seven years in a small village on the hills, about thirty minutes by car from Pisa.
I live with my wife and my two sons, 8 and 14 years old, in an very old and nice house.
It locates on the top of a hill with a great landscape and it is surrounded by a small wood of cypresses and oaks.
Seven years ago, we were looking for a new house and as we found it, we immediately liked it, so we bought, renovated and we went to live there.

My wife is German and my sons Jakob and Samuel are bilingual.
I speak also a little German.
My sons study in Italy but, during the summer, when they have holiday, we spend three months in Germany where they can improve their German.

I have a degree in Computer Science ad I have worked for several years as software project manager and as information technology teacher.
The last big project I have been managing for two years was by Siemens in the branch of robotic and intelligent systems automation.

Now I don't take new big project anymore.

I find, working for a big international company, is exciting and interesting but, at the same time, very stressing and the time for yourself, your family, and your friends is very little.

I am now looking for a better quality of life.

Three years ago I was 45 and I began to study English.
I studied French at school and I speak French and a little German but I had never studied English and I knew only some English words.

A friend told me that we can't learn a new language after the forties.
I don't know if it is true.
But I am sure that we live in the fear and we have a lot of auto-limitative thoughts.

What do you think about? And have you guessed my age??

Andrea

Post from Monica.

My name is Monica, I was born in PerĂ¹ but I live in Italy since 1998. I remember when I arrived I was younger and I thought that that experience was the best choose that I could do, I had thought to remain for one year instead of eleven years but actually I don’t know if one day I will go back to PerĂ¹, now is so difficult to do it, in the meantime I got married and I get on well with my friends and relatives in law. I decided to study English because I wish to work in the branch of Import-Export I would like to take advantage of my mother tongue.
I started to study English ten months ago more or less, I went to England in order to learn really English but it was only an illusion because I met many Italians and Spanish people, my big mistake was to live with them, I was studying English whereas I lived with the Italians so I couldn’t practice anything about I learned at college, so I come back after few months with the same level more and less (from beginner to Elementary but only grammar), my advice to everyone is if you want to learn another language you have to live with the local people and to be far away of the people that speak your same language.
So, in few months my English hasn’t improve. I came back to London again but was different, and I looked a flat to share with someone from England, I met a house in zone four the gay was Irish, very funny and with him I could speak and practice English.
Thanks for attention
See you in class
